| Size and shape
Lots of people buy a
hairpiece with no consideration of
size what-so-ever. They accept off-the-shelf pieces of whatever
size
the vendor has on hand. Size of a hairpiece has nothing to do
with the size of your head. It has to do with how much of your
head you'd like to cover. Some people want the
hairpiece to be just the size of
the bare spot. Others like for the piece to overlap
onto
the existing side hair. Custom made
hairpieces allow you to specify a particular size and shape. We have customers who need a small strip
that is stretched across the front, in the shape of a crescent
moon,
maybe a half inch by four inches. We have some who use a
small
round patch about the size of a silver dollar for the very back of
the
head.
Finding the size of
the hairpiece is fairly simple. Just
explain to us what you need. Better yet, just make a
pattern.
Patterns are easily made of saran wrap coated with tiny pieces of
shipping tape, as I have explained elsewhere. Patterns give us
the size you want but more importantly, it gives us the SHAPE you
want. Edge shape can be given with a flat piece of paper cut
around the edge. That's not nearly as important as the curvature
of your head. Some people's heads are nearly flat like Herman
Munster. Some people's heads are very round, or even pointed. A good
pattern gives us that shape.
<> Some people like
for the hairpiece to extend down
onto the natural hair. Some like it to exactly fit the bare
area.
><>The smaller the
piece, the more difficult it is to hold
in place. Tiny silver-dollar size pieces will probably need some
very good adhesive, while full toupees are pretty stable with only a
couple of clips or tape on each side.
>
A 7X9 piece is the
most common thing I sell. If
you make an accurate pattern of your head, you can make the
pattern
the size and shape you want. If your balding extends far down in
the back, you might need 7x11 or even a 3/4 cap if it's extreme.
That's a very rare situation. If you need anything bigger than
8X10
there will be a small extra cost. That would be extremely rare.
Instead of a pattern,
you can send an old worn-out piece.
We can produce an exact copy of the piece, or make whatever changes you
suggest. If the old piece has looseness around the edge, the
piece is too flat. If the piece has looseness like a bubble in
the center, the piece is too cupped or too round.
We appreciate your business!
